When I first started lifting, I made a fitness account because I was excited to document my progress and share it with others. Thing was, I actually blocked everyone I knew because, honestly, I was worried about what people would think.
I was laughed at in highschool for bringing prepped meals to lunch. I've been berated countless times for not eating out when I'm with friends. I was told all through college that I was missing out on life by not going out and getting drunk every weekend.
I was too embarrassed to publicly call myself a bodybuilder for a long time because I got a lot of shit for putting myself and my workouts first.
Eventually you either cave in to the opinions of others, or you simply decide not to give a fuck about other people anymore. I chose the latter.
And I'm glad I did. I stayed true to myself for years, alone, and now it's all paid off. I get to wake up everyday and live my dream of owning a gym and helping other people find fitness.
This platform is, and always has been, a sort of training diary for me. A place to share my thoughts and experiences about BBing in hopes that maybe it'll inspire someone else. I don't just train hard when the camera's rolling. The person you see here is the person I really am (.. ok actually I think I'm funnier in real life lol).
My point to all this is that there's really no point in trying to live your life for someone else. Train the way you want, wear the clothes you want, post whatever the fuck you want. Life is too damn short for appearances.
Be your authentic self and do what you do because you love doing it. People will notice.

Intention and intensity
In my opinion, the two most important things you can have in your training... and maybe in life in general as well.
As a gym owner, I watch a lot of people workout everyday, and I can confidently say this - 99% of people are simply going through the motions. They use the same weight every week. They stop at a point just shy of any real discomfort. There's not much thought or effort.
And I think that this is true in every aspect of life. We get up, drag ourselves to work, give enough to get by, shy away from anything that makes us remotely uncomfortable. We can do this because our modern world makes it so easy to do so.
But what if you want more? What if you demand more from yourself?
Intention is doing things with purpose. It's following a well written program in the gym, executing each rep with control and refinement. It's choosing movements that make sense. It's being sensible about when it's time to push and when it's time to rest. It's also about using your time wisely, doing things that are challenging, learning more. It's paying attention to the world around you, seeing the little things. It's reflecting and analyzing and thinking deeply.
Intensity is the effort you bring to a situation. It's about pushing yourself in the gym - 1 more rep, a few more pounds, a slower and more controlled rep, a greater range of motion. It's keeping a log book and making sure you're doing just a little more than the last workout. It's the effort you give at your job and in your relationships. It's the attitude you bring everyday, the choice to look at things positively and with excitement and ambition. It's pushing yourself to a place of fear and discomfort, leaning into pain, and finding the beauty that exists in that dark place.
These things are the key to getting more out of your training and your life.
Observe, analyze, refine, repeat. Seek discomfort. Thrive in it.
As is with everything in life, you get out what you put in.
